Cleber Zanchettin received the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), Recife, Brazil, in 2008, and was the recipient of the Brazilian Computer Society’s Best Master’s Thesis Award (2004). He is a Full Professor at the Centro de Informática (CIn-UFPE) and an Adjunct Visiting Professor at Northwestern University (USA). He is a Senior Member of IEEE, a Google Faculty Research Awardee, and a CNPq Fellow, and he serves as Brazil’s representative on the United Nations Committee on AI Capacity Building (ODET Global Network of Centers for Exchange and Cooperation).

He has authored 140+ papers in international refereed journals and conferences and holds 30+ patents, with contributions spanning deep learning, neural networks, cybersecurity, computer vision, pattern recognition, and natural language processing. He is an ICML author and serves as reviewer for leading venues and journals, including NeurIPS, ICLR, and ICML, as well as multiple IEEE and major international publishers. He has participated in the scientific and program committees of several international conferences, including NCTA, IJCCI, IJCNN, ICONIP, IBERAMIA, BRACIS, ENIA, SBC, and SBRN, and he has served as editor of special issues such as “Advances in Intelligent Systems—Selected Papers from SBRN 2012” (Elsevier Neurocomputing, 2014) and “Feature and Algorithm Selection with Hybrid Intelligent Techniques” (International Journal of Hybrid Intelligent Systems, 2012).

At UFPE, he coordinates the Deep Learning specialization, serves as Executive Coordinator of the National Institute of AI and Deputy Coordinator at the Center of Excellence in AI for Cybersecurity, and mentors the AI Innovation Hub. He also serves in leadership and advisory roles, including AMCHAM’s AI committee, Brazil’s Federal Prosecution Service task force on AI regulation, the IEEE R9 Entrepreneurship Committee, and as Chair of the IEEE Technical Co-Sponsorship Conferences Subcommittee. His collaborations include industry and public-sector partners such as Samsung, Accenture, Tempest, and Embraer.
